Of Weygand and Gouraud streets, Area C passed away in different phases since 1983.
Area C fronted Martyrs’ square and was known for hosting a range of commercial activities such as “Boutique Saad”, “Kilikia / Ehden”, “Haiek-Baron”, “BHP Astoria”,
“BHP Toyota”, “Syriaque”, Hotel “Palmyra” Parisiana” and “Metropole”. The main Police Station was stationed in the middle of Area C surrounded by the buildings Keyrouz, Asseily and Susock Cochrane.
The area also hosted the famous “Marika” after the Greek madam Marika Spiridon on the street of Mutannabi or commonly referred to as “Souk el Chramit” or “Sex-Worker Market”. The building not only hosted love rooms but was a popular meeting place of politicians and notables.
Area C was survived by a partial hole of 8 years and paritally replaced by an 8-storey luxurious residential building.
