Of 175-181 Eagle Street, Adelaide Steamship Company passed away
on the 29th of December of 1983.
Adelaide Steamship Company was
one of the few remaining
mercantile family members of Brisbane city. Born in 1913 to the architect Lange Powell, Adelaide
Steamship company was first conceived
of as a bank and was regarded as a very
important architectural addition to Eagle
street. Before reverting back to a bank in 1978,
Adelaide Steamship Company was known for its shipping of sugar
and coal amongst other things.
The Adelaide Steamship Company was survived by a hole for 25 years and replaced by a 48-storey tower.
